PRB: DCB_unit_number Field Not Filled in for Removable Drives

Last reviewed: December 18, 1995
Article ID: Q141266
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Win32 Device Development Kit (DDK) for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

DCBs used by Input Output Superviosor (IOS) layer drivers representing removable disk drives do not fill in the appropriate drive number in the DCB_unit_number field of the DCB.

RESOLUTION

Instead of using the DCB_unit_number field of the DCB, use the DCB in the DCB_next_logical_dcb field in the physical DCB. The drive letter can be obtained from the DCB_drive_ltr_equiv field in this DCB.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
