Toshiba T3100 Screen Is Black After Video Resolution Change

SYMPTOMS

After you change the video resolution on a Toshiba T3100 computer to a resolution higher than 256 colors, the screen may go black when you restart Windows 95.

CAUSE

The built-in screen on the Toshiba T3100 computer does not support more than 256 colors. This computer does support 64,000 (16-bit) colors when you use an external monitor.

RESOLUTION

To correct the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Restart the computer.

  2. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press the F5 key to start Windows 95 in Safe mode.

  3. Change the video resolution to 256 colors or less.

  4. Restart Windows 95 normally.
