Error Using Filename with More Than 236 Characters in WordPad

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save a file in WordPad with a file name containing more than 236 characters, you receive the following error message:

   This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut
   down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

When you click the Close button, the file is saved. However, trying to open the file results in the error message stated above.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem from occurring, use file names with no more than 236 characters in WordPad.
