  • Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release versions 2, 2.1

SYMPTOMS

The Volume Control tool may not be available after you install Windows 95.

CAUSE

Tools such as Volume Control are installed based on the hardware detected during the installation of Windows 95. If the computer contains an ISA Plug and Play device that is not turned on by the BIOS, the device is not detected until after Windows 95 is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:

  • When you install Windows 95, use the Custom Setup option. When you are prompted to select the components you want, select Volume Control in the Multimedia section.
  • If Windows 95 is already installed, follow these steps to install Volume Control:

    1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

    2. On the Windows Setup tab, click Multimedia, and then click

          Details.

    3. Click the Volume Control check box to select it.

    4. Click OK.

    5. Click OK.
