OPTi FireStar Chip Set Not Recognized by Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

Computers with an OPTi Fire Star 82c700 chip set may not pass the "PCI IRQ Routing Table Test" portion of the Windows Hardware Compatibility Test (HCT) 7.1. Error messages may include:

   Error: Verifying IRQ Routing Link Values Error: Unknown Chipset.
   Cannot Verify.  Problems were encountered with this machine's IRQ
   Routing Table that prevent it from being PC 97 Compliant.

The device may or may not function normally otherwise.

CAUSE

Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) does not recognize or correctly support the OPTi Fire Star 82c700 chip set.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2. An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.
