Err Msg During Backup: Fatal Error on Drive 1

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Windows NT Backup program with an Exabyte EXB-8200 tape backup device on an IBM SCSI controller, the backup process may stop and the following error message may appear:

   Fatal error on drive 1

CAUSE

This problem occurs with earlier versions of IBM SCSI BIOS.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade the IBM SCSI controller BIOS to the revision dated 1992 or later. For additional information, call IBM Technical Support at (800) 772-2227.
