SUBST Command Does Not Execute in AUTOEXEC.NT

SYMPTOMS

When you include the SUBST command in the AUTOEXEC.NT file in Windows NT, it does not execute. The AUTOEXEC.NT file only runs 16-bit DOS binary command.

CAUSE

The SUBST command is a Win32 binary command. SUBST is documented in Chapter 9 of the Windows NT Server version 3.5 "System Guide" as a native command for the Command Prompt.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

  • Create a batch file including the SUBST command. Next, create a program item for the batch file in the Startup group of Program Manager.
  • Include the SUBST command in a user's login script.
