Last reviewed: October 7, 1997
Article ID: Q159927
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When looking at the User Profiles tab of the System tool in Control Panel, the Delete button may be unavailable for certain user profiles.

CAUSE

This occurs whenever the user account associated with that profile is in use. This not only applies to the currently logged on user, but also to any user accounts used by services that start automatically (such as tape backup software).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, log on as a different user or stop the service that is currently using the account associated with the user profile. You can then delete the profile.
