RAS Error 692 Using USR Sportster ISDN 128k

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Dial-Up Networking with a US Robotics Sportster ISDN 128k, you may see the following error:

   Error 692: Hardware failure in port or attached device.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, perform the following steps to disable Telephony (TAPI) for your Dial-Up Networking connection:

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Dial-Up Networking.

2. Click the appropriate Phonebook Entry To Dial, click More, and then click Edit Entry And Modem Properties.

3. Click the Basic tab, and then click Use Telephony Dialing Properties so that it is not selected.

4. Enter the telephone number string to dial (including 1 + Area Code if you are dialing long distance) in the Phone Number box, click OK, and then click Dial.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
