Disabling Context Menus Does Not Disable Key Combinations

SYMPTOMS

After you disable context menus in Windows NT Explorer using system policies, you may still be able to access an object's properties by pressing ALT+ENTER.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack.

This fix should have the following time stamp:

   09/02/97  08:32pm           1,277,712  Shell32.dll  (Intel)
   09/02/97  08:30pm           1,866,000  Shell32.dll  (Alpha)

   09/02/97  08:32pm             238,352  Explorer.exe (Intel)
   09/02/97  08:30pm             395,536  Explorer.exe (Alpha)

NOTE: The files included with this hotfix are system files. You must use Mv.exe /x /d from the Windows NT Resource Kit to overwrite the files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
