SYMPTOMS

The thesaurus suggests incorrect synonyms for the word "attenuate."

The thesaurus suggests the same set of synonyms for "stationary" and "stationery."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows and in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

The word "attenuate" is defined as "to shorten, make thin, lessen, or weaken." The synonyms suggested by the thesaurus are actually antonyms of the word attenuate. Some of the synonyms suggested by the thesaurus for "attenuate" are "stretch out," "extend," "elongate," and "lengthen."
