SUMMARY

This article describes how to use Internet Assistant, version 1.0, with Word for Windows, versions 6.0a or 6.0c, on the Windows 95 operating system.

MORE INFORMATION

Internet Assistant does not allow you to browse the World Wide Web unless you have an existing connection to the Internet. A connection to the Internet must be established through a private Internet service provider. In Windows 95 you can use Dial-up Networking to connect to your service provider.

The Dial-up Networking feature that ships with Windows 95 allows access to the following types of provider services:

CSLIP: Unix Connection with IP Header Compression
   NRN: NetWare Connect
PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet
   SLIP: Unix Connection
Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT 3.1

For information on what you need to set up Dial-up Networking and how to configure the service provider, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   ARTICLE-ID: Q133219
TITLE : Connecting to the Internet Using a Service Provider

Once dial-up networking and the service provider are set up, connect to the Internet, and then start Internet Assistant to browse the web.
