SYMPTOMS

When you edit the starting number of a ListNum field in a table, Word may generate the following error message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

If you click Details, you see the following:

Winword caused a stack fault in WINWORD.EXE at 0137:<address>.

WORKAROUND

Use the Sequence field in the table instead of the ListNum field.

For more information about sequence fields, click Contents And Index on the Help menu, click the Index tab in Help Topics: Microsoft Word, type the following text

   Sequence

and then double-click the selected text to go to the "SEQ (Sequence) field" topic. If you are unable to find the information you need, ask the Office Assistant.
