The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for Windows, you cannot use the same bookmark name twice in a document, even if the bookmark names do not appear in the document at the same time.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, if your document contains a bookmark named POINT in a glossary defined as XXX, you cannot also insert a bookmark named POINT in a glossary defined as YYY, nor can you insert a bookmark named POINT in your document, even if neither glossary has been expanded in that document.

If you define a bookmark in your document and a bookmark by the same name already exists in a glossary, the original bookmark in the glossary will be deleted.
