SYMPTOMS

When you insert a continuous section break between two footnotes formatted to show at the bottom of the page, the page will incorrectly break at the first footnote reference number below the section break.

WORAROUND

To work around this problem, convert the footnotes to appear at the end of the document. To do this, use the procedure appropriate for your version of Word.

Word Versions 6.x and Later

In Word versions 6.x and later, follow these steps:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Footnote, and then click Options.

  2. Click Convert and make sure that "Convert all footnotes to endnotes" is selected.

  3. Click OK twice.

  4. Click Close in the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.

Word 2.x

In Word versions 2.x, follow these steps:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Footnote and then click the Options button.

  2. Under Place At, select End of Document.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Click Close in the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.
