The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b,

        2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

An equation will not print or display in print preview if you select a portion of a document that a) begins with a character with hidden text formatting, and b) contains an embedded equation, and then update that field. Word for Windows applies hidden text character formatting to the embedded equation when you update the field.

To print and preview the document correctly, remove the hidden text character formatting from the embedded equation.

This problem happens only with embedded Equation Editor objects.

WORKAROUND

When you want to update an embedded equation field, make sure the first character of your selection does not contain hidden text character formatting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
