Failback
Process of moving a resource group back to its preferred node after the node has failed and come back online.
Failed
State that applies to a cluster resource that is unavailable. A resource is placed in the failed state after an unsuccessful attempt has been made by the Cluster Service to bring it online.
Failover
Process of taking a resource group offline on one node and bringing it online on another node. The offline and online transitions occur in a predefined order, with resources that are dependent on other resources taken offline before and brought online after the resources upon which they depend.
Failover Manager
Software component in the Cluster Service that works with the Resource Manager to manage resources and groups and initiate failover operations.
Failover policy
Parameters that an administrator can set using Cluster Administrator to affect failover operations of a group. These parameters include the FailoverThreshold and FailoverPeriod properties.
Failover time
Amount of time it takes a group to complete the failover process. See also Failover.
Fault tolerant
Non-stop availability. Fault tolerant systems are typically implemented by configuring a backup of the primary system that remains idle and unused until a failure occurs.
File Share resource
A file or print share that applications can access using a network path. Cluster Server provides a resource DLL to manage File Share resources.
