MS DTC is effective for applications that must update a geographically distributed database. Consider an inventory database that is partitioned into an Eastern Warehouse database and a Western Warehouse database. When an item is moved from one warehouse to the other, the item count in the source warehouse must be decreased, and the item count in the destination warehouse must be increased.
