The zone file is automatically created when you configure a zone on a computer running Microsoft DNS server. The zone file is named with the same name as the zone. Resource records are added to this file when you configure zone properties and add new records by using DNS Manager. If your computer running Microsoft DNS server is configured with multiple zones, you will have multiple zone files in the DNS directory on that computer.
