Troubleshooting LMHOSTS Files

When using the LMHOSTS file, problems such as failure to locate a remote computer can occur because one or more of the following errors are present in the LMHOSTS file:

• The LMHOSTS file does not contain an entry for the remote server.
• The computer (NetBIOS) name in the LMHOSTS file is misspelled. (Note that LMHOSTS names are automatically converted to uppercase.)
• The IP address for a computer name in the LMHOSTS file is not valid.
• The required carriage return at the end of the last entry in the LMHOSTS file is missing.
