Microsoft Internet Component Download Overview
Internet Component Download is a system service for downloading and installing code from the Internet, and for certificate checking. This service is used by Microsoft® Internet Exporer to automatically download and install software from code repositories on the Internet. This section explains how code authors should prepare their software for automatic download. It then describes the interface for the component download mechanism, and finally provides some additional implementation details, including a description of the Internet Search Path service, which allows searching for code that can be downloaded.
