Setting Up an ODBC Connection for Address Book

You need to set up an ODBC System data source name (DSN) on the Web server where the Remote Data Service server components will be installed.

This setup assumes that the Employee table was created in the AddrBookDB database on a local SQL Server running on the Web server by running the SQL script. If you want to use another database or another SQL Server running on a separate server, then you must change the values for Server and Database Name in the ODBC SQL Server Setup dialog box. If you do so, you will also have to make small changes in the included AddrBook page.

To set up the DSN for a Windows NT® client

  1. On the Web server, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click the ODBC icon.

  3. On the System DSN tab, click Add.

  4. In the Create New Data Source box, select SQL Server and click Finish.

  5. Follow the instructions in the "Create a New Data Source to SQL Server" wizard. If you need assistance, click Help in the wizard dialog box.

  6. When you are finished, click OK to return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box. Click Close to exit ODBC setup.

To set up the DSN for a Windows 95® client

  1. On the Web server, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click the ODBC icon.

  3. Click System DSN.

  4. In the System Data Sources box, click Add, select SQL Server, and click OK.

  5. Follow steps 5 and 6 in the previous Windows NT client procedure.
