Selectively Subscribing to Data

A subscription server can subscribe to none, some, or all publications offered by a publication server. Within each publication, it can subscribe to some or all of the articles.

In this example:

• The server AKITA creates two publications, PUB1 and PUB2. Two tables are added to PUB1 and become articles 1A and 1B. Three tables are added to PUB2 and become articles 2A, 2B, and 2C.
• The server AIREDALE subscribes to PUB1 and PUB2 and receives all articles.
• The server COLLIE subscribes only to article 2B.
• The server MUTT subscribes only to articles 1B, 2A, and 2C.

    To selectively subscribe to data

1. Create the publications and articles on AKITA.
   • Create a publication named PUB1.

     Add the authors table, and then edit that article and rename it 1A.

     Add the titles table, and then edit that article and rename it 1B.

   • Create a publication named PUB2.

     Add the publisher table, and then edit that article and rename it 2A.

     Add the sales table, and then edit that article and rename it 2B.

     Add the stores table, and then edit that article and rename it 2C.

2. Subscribe AIREDALE to PUB1 and PUB2.

   Subscribing to a publication is the same as subscribing to all articles in the publication. AIREDALE will receive articles 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, and 2C.

3. Subscribe COLLIE only to article 2B.
4. Subscribe MUTT to articles 1B, 2A, and 2C.
