Installing Windows-based Clients

You can run the setup program for Windows-based clients from a local drive or from a network drive. Remember that while running setup, you can choose the Help button or press f1 to access the setup program's online Help.

    To install client software on a Windows-based computer
  1. From the \CLIENTS\WIN16 directory of the drive containing the SQL Server 6.0 installation software, run SETUP.EXE.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions. You will be asked to:
  3. When the installation is finished, a completion dialog box appears. Choose the OK button to exit the setup program.

To upgrade an existing client installation on a Windows- or Windows for Workgroups-based computer, first make sure that no SQL Server client components are running on the computer and then perform the same steps as for a new installation.
