About making changes to data in a queried database
Changing a database that you have retrieved data from In some cases, you can use Microsoft Query to change data in an external database or to delete data in an external database. When you make changes to the results of the query, Microsoft Query also changes the data in the underlying table that you used for the query.
Conditions that prevent you from changing a database You cannot make changes to data in a queried database in the following situations:
- The data source is protected from changes or doesn't allow changes.
- The query contains more than one table.
- The query contains totals or custom expressions.
- The field you're trying to change is locked or disabled, or the field is in a record that is locked.
- The data you're trying to enter is not a valid type for the database. Depending on the database you're trying to change, you may need to enter a specific value in a field.
- Your administrator has made the modification features on the database unavailable.
