Data sources that were created with earlier versions of Microsoft Query Data sources that were created with versions of Microsoft Query earlier than Query 97 have an asterisk next to the data source name. All data sources, including new ones that are created with Query 2000 and later, are stored as files with file name extension .dsn. To list data sources that were created with earlier versions of Query, click Options in the Choose Data Source dialog box (File menu, New command), and then select the Include registry DSNs in list of available databases check box. If these data sources are stored in the default location, you can select them in the Choose Data Source dialog box and then click Delete.

Locations for data source files Data source files from earlier versions of Microsoft Query are usually stored in the ODBC Datasources folder in the Common Files folder. Data source files for Query 2000 and later are stored in your user profile folder in Application Data\Microsoft\Queries. To see what folders are used to store data source files, click New Query Button image, click the Databases tab, and then click Options.
