The Selection object in Word and PowerPoint, along with the Selection property in Excel and Outlook, allows you to determine what content is currently selected in the active window. The next chapter shows you how to use this understanding of what type of content is selected to appropriately update custom menu commands and toolbar buttons. In addition, being able to navigate to specific content and position a custom dialog box around content visible on the user's screen allows you to develop functionality similar to that built into the Office applications—for example, how the Find and the Spelling and Grammar dialog boxes scroll.
