To change the display on which your Windows taskbar, system logon, & dialog boxes appear

Windows XP

  1. Make sure you have securely connected the additional displays you want to use to your computer.

  2. Verify that your displays are plugged in and turned on.

Optional method 1

    1. From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under Display, click  Run multiple display wizard to start the wizard which prompts you through several pages that allow you to configure your displays.

    2. If needed, make any adjustments on any page as you click Next to go through the wizard, and then stop when you reach the page titled Primary Display.

    3. On the Primary Display page, select the display that will be your "primary" display; this is the display where your Windows taskbar, system logon screen, and full-screen applications and dialog boxes will appear.

    4. Click Next to go through the remaining wizard and make any needed adjustments.

Optional method 2

    1. From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under Display, click Set up multiple displays to open the page.

    2. Select the display you want to use as the primary display from the list in step 3: Select the display you want Windows to use as primary.

    3. Click Apply.

Windows Vista and later

  1. Make sure you have securely connected the additional displays you want to use to your computer.

  2. Verify that your displays are plugged in and turned on.

  3. From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under Display, click Set up multiple displays to open the page.

  4. Right-click the display icon that corresponds to the display that you want to make the main (primary) display, click Make Primary and then click Apply.

To identify which display is represented by an icon, right-click the icon and then click Identify to see which display shows the same number as the icon. You can also move the mouse cursor over an icon to see more information about the display, such as manufacturer, model, connection, and resolution.

Note: On netbooks using NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology with display connectors driven by the NVIDIA GPU, games and videos on those displays will perform best when the display is set as the main (primary) display.  You will not get the best performance by simply dragging the program window over to the NVIDIA GPU-driven display.
