Release Notes   Welcome!
Introduction   Welcome!

Microsoft SDK for Java

This version of the SDK includes:

  • The Microsoft virtual machine: This release supports many new features including continued industry performance leadership, JDK 1.1 support (with the exception of RMI and JNI), automatic and bi-directional integration between Microsoft® ActiveX® components and JavaBeans, Microsoft® J/Direct™, permissions-based security, package management, console to view debug output and expanded internationalization (i18n) support.
  • Application Foundation Classes (AFC): AFC provides a suite of user interface components and graphics effects classes for building richer user interfaces that will work with a number of popular browsers.
  • Other featured packages include DirectX™ 3 for Java, DirectAnimation™, XML, Win32 API classes for J/Direct, and a comprehensive set of samples.
  • Development tools and utilities: These are located in the SDK \Bin directory and its subdirectories. In order to use the tools, please set the path accordingly. The SDK for Java includes the latest version of the Microsoft Compiler for Java with JDK1.1 support, with the exception of RMI and JNI, (jvc) (which will not automatically replace the VJ++ compiler if a developer has VJ++ installed), AWT2AFC for migrating AWT applets to AFC, NT Service conversion utility, packaging and signing tools, Javareg, JActiveX (a new COM support conversion tool), and many others.
  • The SDK also includes the Microsoft JDBC-ODBC Bridge.

Please read the license before using the SDK.
