  1. Open the Property sheet for the input method that you want to set properties for.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Select the options/settings you want.
  4. Click OK.

On the Advanced tab, you can customize advanced features. Available options vary depending on the input method you are using.

Restore Defaults

If there is an inconvenience caused by the feature settings, click Restore Defaults to restore original settings.

Sentence-final particle conversion

When you type a sentence-final particle at the end of a sentence and a corresponding punctuation, Microsoft New Phonetic will automatically select the correct particle and complete input.

Punctuation auto-finalize

If the punctuation auto-finalize feature is turned on, entering a sentence complete punctuation will send characters in the composition window to the text editor and complete the sentence

Fuzzy input

Having trouble distinguishing retroflexs, non-retroflexs, nasals and non-nasals? Fuzzy input can help you out. You can turn on the fuzzy input feature, which allows you to select from two confusable phonetic symbols such as £¤£¨ and £³£´. Microsoft New Phonetic will then list relevant phonetic symbols in Candidate list and count them into intelligent phrase selection.

Auto input switch

This option can support Chinese and English combined input without the need of switching between Chinese and English input. You can define some English phrases, so that the phrases can be entered in Chinese input mode. You can also set whether to automatically switch to English input mode after entering those English phrases.

Input status feedback

After you have entered a long text string, if the intelligent text selection function of Microsoft New Phonetic determines that the previously entered text needs to be changed, it will indicate the text changed by input status feedback. If you want to change it yourself, you can move the cursor to the left of the changed text by using Left and Right arrow keys or by pressing the Ctrl key.

Show input reading in candidate list

You can set this option to display the reading in candidate list for you to input reading symbols instead of Chinese character.

Inline candidate switch

This setting allows you to turn off inline candidate switch or select a candidate switch key to change to some other candidate quickly.

This setting defines whether the Esc key is used to clear text in the composition sindow or send the text in composition window to the program in use.

Punctuation Input

This setting defines whether to use Ctrl+punctuation key to enter punctuations.

Leading key

This setting defines the key used as a leading key.

Options:

You can use the leading key to enter characters in Unicode/Big5 code, to enter Chinese punctuations, or to enter user-defined phrases with shortcut keys.

Toneless key

This setting allows you to define a symbol as wildcard for toneless input. You can use the specified symbol as the toneless key to replace the first, second, third, fourth and neutral tones for quick input.

Toneless

This setting allows you to turn on or off the toneless input feature. If the toneless feature is turned on, you can press any tone key to replace any tone mark. Microsoft New Phonetic will select the correct phrase automatically.

Note: The specified toneless key will always be valid regardless of whether Toneless is set to ON or OFF.

Phrase input key

This setting allows you to turn off the phrase input key feature or select a phrase input key. The phrase input key serves as a delimiter between phrases when you are typing with Microsoft New Phonetic. That is, you can control word-breaking rules to improve conversion accuracy.

Warning beep feedback

This setting defines whether to warn user of error input with beeps.
